Pulaski, VA

Pulaski is an incorporated town in
Pulaski County.
The town's population in 2000 was 9,473 persons (2000
U.S. Census). The town began as a point established on
the Virginia & Tennessee Railroad (V&T) called
"Martin's", so name in accordance with the Virginia
tradition of naming a depot after the person that
owned the land where the station was established. In
about 1884, the Norfolk & Western Railroad
(N&W) renamed the station-point "Pulaski" and the
Pulaski Improvement Company began planning the
construction of a grandiose hotel, the Maple Shade
Inn, near the N&W station.
